In this issue, we focus on preventing harm from alcohol and other drugs use during the upcoming schoolies. You will find information on: 
With the end of school year looming, Year 12 students will be getting ready to celebrate schoolies. It can be a wonderful time for them, away from home and enjoying with friends. However, it can also expose students to potential dangers.

To ensure your students are safe this schoolies season, it is important to equip them with information on the effects of alcohol and other drugs, and laws around drug-related issues such as underage drinking and drug possession. It is useful to explore strategies that teenagers can use to turn down alcohol and drugs in a party situation. It can help them to know that the majority of teenagers their age DO NOT use illegal drugs, and more and more young people are choosing not to drink alcohol.

We have developed various resources to help teachers communicate with their students about this important topic.
Schoolies: How can you prepare your students?
Due to a lack of information and limited life experience, teenagers often have a lot of misperceptions about alcohol and drug use. Using the information from this factsheet, you can clear common misperceptions that your students might have.
It is important to be aware about the legal consequences of drug use. As a teachers, you can ensure that your students are equipped with this information. This factsheet outlines the legal consequence of drug use, possession, production, import, sale.
Making Choices
During schoolies, teenagers may find themselves in situations where they feel pressured to use drugs or drink alcohol. This factsheet provides tips on what teenagers can do to handle difficult situations.
Parents are often unsure how to handle teenage gatherings and parties. This webinar by Paul Dillon can help parents at your school implement practical strategies to ensure students stay safe. This webinar is available on demand.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Resources
Teachers play an important role in providing health information for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. This factsheet provides information on how schools can protect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students from drug-related harm.

We are constantly working to improve the accessibility of our website. Accordingly, we have now added 'read aloud' and translator functions. You can now translate our resources to 21 different languages.
